Local Area

The Pheasant Inn lies amidst a land of Vikings and Romans, with Hadrians Wall only a stones throw away and the northern Lake District lying in wait along our horizon. In 2004 Cumwhitton village was subject to a major excavation following discovery of a viking brooch dating back to the ninth century. Six burials were found containing a wide range of artefacts, including swords, spearheads, spurs, knives and beads of Scandinavian origin. Also closeby is the Coast to Coast route so please drop in when you reach the halfway point.
